I think China blocked Gmail.
Actually, make that — I’m pretty damn sure the sucking fuckers blocked Gmail.
Oh for fuck’s sake.
You mean I don’t get to check my email until I get back to the States?
Or get to use Gchat for AIM?
Just, suck a leprous dick.
Why they find this necessary or intelligent or anything is beyond me. Like, this is hardly going to stop anyone who is more tech-savvy than I am.
So what they’re doing is keeping the stupid, stupid.
Good for them, I guess.
Except when you have as many people as they do — it’s going to be damn hard to contain the smrt.
Except me, cuz I suck at tech. Fuckit.

So, there’s no measures being put in place so that overseas military personnel can reliably get their absentee ballots on time and submit them– but NASA personnel can?
Amazing, what is this? Shiny new toy gets more attention or what?
Many people stationed in Iraq did not received their absentee ballots in a timely manner. I can’t find the exact news link now, but there were Marines who still did not get their ballots as late as a week before the election — when it usually takes about three weeks for mail to arrive back in the U.S.
Then there’s the fascinating fact that some absentee ballots won’t be counted and there’s been a record of this happening before.
All I can say is, WTF mate?
They’re good enough to die for their country, but they don’t get to vote for their commander in chief?
Good game, U.S, good game.

In response to an article on how college students waited as long as 5 and a half hours in the rain to vote, ronburgundys has the amazing response:
Posted by ronburgandys 08:10 AM, 11/06/2008
Why exactly are college students able to vote anyway? They for the most part don’t work, don’t own property, and live off their parents. They have no real exposure to effects of who becomes president. The military is voluntary, and they would’nt be going even if draft existed so that defeats that argument. Critera in this country should be 1.)Over 18 2.) Income of over 12,000 per year or own property.
Uh, what?
No real exposure?
So, students whose parents can’t afford to pay for their tuition because they got laid off or because they lost their investments to the Dow crashes — what do you call that? Those students who put themselves through school by working part-time who might lose their jobs because businesses are scaling back — that’s no effect on them, right? Or perhaps if the president launches us into another war, those patriotic men and women who go to fight for our country willingly who might not otherwise have considered such a career except for the need — it’s not really changing their life any, is it?
As for the draft - college is pretty short, only four years. If the wars drag on for much longer than that, it’s not as if people can stay in college indefinitely. Also, I would say a significant number of college students do not go to school purely on their parent’s ticket. If so, the number of people graduating with loans wouldn’t be as high as it is now.
And for the record, most college students are older than 18 once they hit their sophomore or junior year. It’s pretty rare to see a college graduate who is under 18. What does that mean for your rhetoric?
Lastly, what the fuck does owning property or having an income above 12,000 have anything to do with anything? Because when people buy houses and have jobs, they automatically become more intelligent? More vested? More patriotic?
You, sir, are a fucking retard. You’re also bloody ignorant and have no idea what bile you’re just randomly spewing out.

I’m not in the least bit ashamed to say that I was near tears when I saw the headlines yesterday night and this morning.
It just feels amazing, absolutely fantastic.
No, I don’t know if he’s going to be “the One” and I’m not positive he’s going to be able to turn this country around within the next four years, “heal the land, turn the tide” and such hyperbolic rot.
What was awe-inspiring, truly, was the shift in consciousness that allowed a black man to be voted in as President of the United States. The amount of concern coming from overseas that was evidenced by the jubilant posts on fivethirtyeight.com was staggering. I knew that people cared, yes, but I had no idea that they were also waiting with bated breath for the election results.
All I hope now is that he can live up to people’s inflated expectations of him. But then again, it’s not just him, it’s us. As the voters chanted when he won: “Yes, we did!”
Now that people have realized the power they hold, maybe there’s a much brighter future on the horizon. Perhaps it’s time for me to start printing out those citizenship application forms.

Me: “DID MCCAIN JUST SAY THAT HE WAS GOING TO ALLOW ANY VETERANS THAT HAD THE DESIRE TO BECOME TEACHERS WITHOUT EXAMINATIONS?”
*distant sounds of Caesura rampaging through the kitchen*
Yup. Guess I didn’t hear wrong.
Congratulations, McCain, you’ve managed to make me write my first all caps blog sentence. You ought to be proud.

Posted in Politics and Law tagged 2008 election, Sarah Palin's lies, VP debate at 11:24 pm by kyrias
– is the soundtrack running through my head after watching the VP debates.
I think that Sarah Palin, through sheer dint of repetition, memorization, and looks, has managed to trounce Joe Biden at the debates.
I’ve tried so hard and got so far — but in the end it doesn’t even matter…
Perhaps I’m just being pessimistic, but I’m not thrilled with how tonight turned out. I don’t think Joe Biden acqquited himself terribly, but compared to how Sarah Palin seemed — he definitely seemed to come off the worse.
Not to say that she was a brilliant debater. From what I could see, she just kept pushing the same old keywords, even going so far as ignoring the question asked, and kept saying things about Obama’s campaign that were, at least, not strict truth. But that’s why our resumes are just endless strings of key terms, right? Because that’s what people bring away because of our average attention spans that couldn’t rival a hamster’s.
Not that Joe Biden wasn’t aggravating in his turn about tying everything back about how McSame was going to be 8 more years of lame, but her saying that the Obama campaign was mired in the past is singlularly maddening because of how backwards her views are.
ANWR?
Gay rights? Note that Biden said that he was going to actively push for being fair and making it legal for gay couples to have the same rights as gay couples but all she said was that she wasn’t going get in their way. Pretty much saying that if they want any, they’re going to have to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Not to mention McCain is definitely against gay marriage.
What also frustrated me was that she kept pushing that she was sympathetic to the American cause and to the middle class family because she was just like them in wondering about how to pay college bills and whatnot.
WHAT. THE. FUCK.
Her assets top 1 million, easy, and this isn’t even counting her income last year which was almost 230k. This is compared to the average American household which makes 50k. Comparatively? Zora’s CNA job at 40 hours a week and which is tiring, hard work will net her 25k before taxes.
No, Sarah Palin, you are NOT like us. Unlike you, we cannot claim per diems of nearly double my household income. Unlike us, your children will never have to worry about college bills or student loans that are nearly crushing. So just come straight like you always say you want to and just stop lying out your mouth.
May God have mercy on us all.

Disregarding that I can’t vote — I was going to say my cartoid artery, but honestly, I don’t think I’d pick slitting my own throat above voting for Palin. Just saying — duty to the world and all, but that don’t help much when I’m ded, do it?
There’s just something about Palin that brings out the redneck in me, next thing I know I’ll be saying I don’t got no learnin’.
- She’s a filthy liar.
- Lied about Bristol’s pregnancy at first.
- Lied about saying “no thanks” to the Bridge to nowhere
- Lied about being willing to support any investigation regarding Wooten, or Troopersgate.
- Claimed to be anti-earmark, only to ask for more earmark dollars per person than any other state.
- Says she’s anti “good ol’ boys“, except she hires her friends at high salaries for jobs they don’t necessarily qualify for.
- Supposedly full of integrity, she billed the state for 312 nights spent in her own home.
- Ms Squeaky Clean also billed the state for trips her family made, including flying her family out to attend the Iron Dog snowmobile race Todd Palin was participating in. Her daughter’s expenses alone totaled 25,000 whilst her husband spent 19,000.
- Lied about visiting Ireland and Iraq.
- Apparently fires people just because.
- She’s pro-life, even in cases of rape.
- Left Wasilla in DEBT when it wasn’t in debt when she became mayor.
- Opposes explicit sex-ed, even in the face of it clearly not working for her own daughter — or herself.
- Made rape victims pay for own rape kits. *Can I say, BITCH?
- About that really wierd flying from Texas to Alaska to give birth bit… I honestly think that it makes her look like a psychopath.
- Her speeches to date have either been full of lies, stupidty, intent on maligning Obama, or all three. Hardly a stellar performance.
- She sucks as a mother. I’ve been there, said that.
- Todd Palin was carbon-copied official state business. Before people start bringing out Hillary Clinton, I’d like to point out that at least Bill Clinton’s aides weren’t direct emailing her all the official business OR having her sit in on cabinet meetings constantly. Even if Bill Clinton said that he’s sit in on cabinet meetings if asked to — he also said it probably wasn’t a great idea for him to be a constant official presence. Not to mention, whereas Hillary Clinton was a lawyer in her own right and probably had good input — I doubt that Todd Palin should be giving any advice in terms of experience and knowledge on top of probably shouldn’t be doing it in the first place. Furthermore, the fact that they used private email accounts are a good indication that they knew it was a bad idea and still did it.
I just think this makes them sketchier than they already were - as if that were possible, really.
Mostly, it’s that she’s a filthy liar. I don’t believe she has any integrity and the scandals that are pouring out of the woodwork are showing it.
The frightening part of this is that everyone thinks she’s so great, so much so that it seems like more people support SP than support McCain.
For crying out loud, she’s, if not a total psychopath who is incapable of speaking the truth, a total fake. She is not compassionate, the girl next door, or someone who will look out for the average citizen.
And for those people who posted on Salon.com saying that they’re going to vote for her because her husband is hot and because she proves that women can have it all…I think you should all be taken out of the gene pool, pronto.

Or, at least have the right to vote revoked.
It’s bad enough that there are women who think Sarah Palin is going to be all for them and all about them. It’s sad how they haven’t bothered to go look up any of the numerous sites that have detailed how exactly Sarah Palin cut funding for teen moms.
But that’s fine.
Then there’s the women who say things such as:
“I’m undecided but leaning more towards McCain because of Palin. It’s a women thing. She’s one of us. This race is about the running-mates – it’s not about Obama any more.” (Times Online)
Or, who say:
“Palin’s made a big difference. I think she’ll do us great. What she stands for is fantastic,” (Times Online)
but when asked what exactly Palin stands for and how she has changed things:
“I couldn’t tell really. But I love her.”
Alright — so your fore-mothers shed blood, tears, and died for the vote just so you could vote with your ovaries?
So, we could go back to those days of back-alley abortions which caused countless women to die?
So our children could be taught creationism in school?
Fantastic.

Or perhaps just murkier.
Sally Quinn asks a couple of questions regarding women’s reactions towards Sarah Palin and I think that whereas she raises some good questions, she’s a good example of why everyone is failing at pinpointing the real problems people, or even just I, have with Sarah Palin.
My real beef with Sarah Palin is that I honestly think that she’s got her head skewed on wrong.
- Trig. People keep asking about the baby and some say that she can “farm out” the work of taking the baby and others say that it’s so anti-feminist to say she personally needs to take care of the baby. Others, with good logic, say that we’re undermining Hillary Clinton and Obama by acting all Stone Age in terms of wanting Sarah Palin to take her of her child and not to ask the same of Obama.I’m going to say, it’s not quite the same between the two of them.
Firstly, a DS baby is going to need more care and attention than the two girls Obama has. Secondly, Sarah Palin already has 4 children on top of Trig and her husband is NOT willing to be the stay at home dad. Not that Michelle Obama was a stay at home mother, I’m just saying that “no, there’s going to be no one for the DS baby if Sarah isn’t spending attention on it”. Thirdly, I just can’t reconcile the logic of bringing a DS baby into the world and then almost callously relegating its care to someone else. Is it just about the birthing or is it about deeper principles?
- It might be unfair of me, or anti-feminist, or whatever — but I tend to judge a person on how they raise and treat their children. Based on what I’ve seen on Sarah Palin, I wouldn’t let her plant-sit my plants while I went on a three-day vacation, much less be #2 in the country.
Regardless of whether or not Bristol should have been put on public display — she should have known that it was going to happen when she accepted the role. I think it’s just a bit callous of her to just shrug aside her daughter, who’s pregnant before marriage as a high school senior and just go rampaging about campaigning. I’m not even going to go into the whole “she should have taught Bristol better” or the “she should have done something” gig. Teens will be teens and who can really control them? The point is that there seems to be a marked lack of empathy and support there.
Then there’s the whole Trig premature-DS-took 8 hour plane flight and then one hour drive shenanigan she pulled. It almost smacks of her trying to off the baby so she could say she was going to have the DS baby regardless of it having DS, but it was just not meant to be.
Maybe I’m wrong, maybe she can balance being on the campaign trail and then being VP with taking good care of a DS baby. But I compare how she seems to be acting to other parents’ accounts of caring for their DS babies and feel that she comes up horribly short. If she treats her kids like this, how will she treat us?
- The fact that she wants to try and tell me how to live my life, what I should do with my body is so abhorrent because I honestly think that she’s not a good human being. Her ethical investigation that’s ongoing regarding her brother-in-law…her flip-flopping on the bridge to nowhere… Just, it’s ok if you’re a wonderful human being and you’ve got ethics out the wazoo and you want to presume to tell me how to live my life. Sure, ok, whatever. But it’s so beyond insulting and horrifying to have someone called “Sarah Barracuda” try and manage my life for me.
In all, it boils down to the fact that I believe that she’s putting hubris and her ambitions before her family and that makes me lose all possibility of respect for her. Everything else is just icing on the cake.
